nature, art & habitat residency

Nature, Art & Habitat Residency: ECO-Laboratory of multidisciplinary practices is an international program with a satellite opportunity in Santa Ynez. The call is open to artists, researchers and scientists engaged in projects of study and emulation of nature.

With this call, NAHR seeks proposals that uncover the stories, structures, and transformations of minerals, whether through the lens of environmental science, anthropology, art, or political ecology. We ask that fellows focus on the locality, exploring the topic within the Valleys, before incorporating global perspectives. Minerals can be found in the foods we eat, the water we drink, and the technologies we rely upon. They also challenge our perceptions of life and non-life, inviting us to reconsider the boundaries that define existence itself.

NAHR is offered to a professional or university student active in different bio-inspired fields: design, architecture, anthropology, botany, natural sciences, literature, poetry, technology, economics, or an identifiable interdisciplinary blend of these. The program offers a lively space to productively think and create, collaborate and interact, and take full advantage of the surrounding natural landscapes, as well as the area’s rich material culture, which combines vernacular traditions with innovative approaches to space, place, people and the communities.
